The average American has no awareness of, nor exposure to, the average person in China.
Even students of China studies in America are taught with a narrowing list of largely American-authored textbooks.
In the minds of Many Americans, China looks this
And this
and even this
Does the whole of China have this demographic problem? Why do the media focus on the slums and not on the positive stories?
As an American who has lived in China for six years, I am afraid of the arrogance and stereotype of ordinary people in my country: our understanding of China is almost totally absurd, which is like the understanding of the world in China more than 100 years ago!

On 23rd May, rolled off the production line a prototype magnetic-levitation train with a designed top speed of 600 km per hour in the eastern city of Qingdao. The debut of China’’s first high-speed maglev train testing prototype marks a major breakthrough for the country in the high-speed maglev transit system.
At the same time, what are we doing?
Greta, a Swedish girl, continued her strike, then denounced the government for “destroying our future”!
This was welcomed by American environmentalists, who began to condemn the developing countries all over the world for not supporting environmental protection, and then the carnival and slogan!
They seem to forget the competition between countries, or in their view, except for the “civilized people” such as Britain, the United States and Western Europe, countries all over the world are barbarians, not our competitors at all!
Napoleon once said:Let China sleep, for when the Dragon awakes, she will shake the world. China is clearly now a force to be reckoned with in terms of technological innovation.

Many Americans thinks about foreign countries in terms of historical stereotypes. France is believed to be a nation of cowards, because the French Armies had run away from the battle fields twice against invading Germans in World Wars I and II.
The British are viewed upon as monarchists and colonialists. Japan is perceived as a h-tech wonder world, while many Americans still hold a Cold War mentality and It doesn’t seem to realize that Russia and China are different from the past.
In other words, this prejudice prevents Americans from “actively understanding” Chinese people, because under the condemnation of Pompeo, all behaviors that want to truly understand China, rather than just listen to the one-sided words of western public opinion, will be regarded as alien by their own family and friends!
Yes, I don’t want to admit it, but it’s true: today’s America is falling into “majority violence!”

You may have a bad trip to China and if so it’s understandable, you lack a positive impression of the Chinese people. But when I’m meeting Americans who visited China for their first time, most of them were surprised and held a more optimistic viewpoint of the country.
That’s because they likely had very low expectations ,Usually in the public opinion of the United States, Britain or any other western countries, China as a communist country is usually described as a “bad place”
but instead they saw beautiful tourist sites and met regular people who treated them with friendship and respect.
Yes, there is no difference between Chinese and us. They are also kind, friendly, love their motherland and yearn for a better life. Their government is also great. They try their best to provide services for their people. Even in my opinion, in many ways, they even surpass the American government!

Believe me, my friends!Don’t be prejudiced or hesitant。
So long as Americans come to China in a peaceful manner; following the laws and regulations of the country there’s no reason for the Chinese to treat them with a condescending attitude. The Chinese are strong believers in giving respect to people who show them respect.
Additionally, Americans are often surprised how clean Chinese cities are, compared with their hometowns because local sanitation workers pick up the trash every single day, while the police patrolling the streets keep crime rates low and the homeless are not permitted to harass local residents. That’s very different from most American cities, struggling with serious littering, high crime waves and homelessness.
China’s Central government has also focused on constructing massive and groundbreaking infrastructure to maintain a strong and vibrant domestic economy that can boost international trade and investment channels. For example, Beijing had recently opened a new airport in Daxing that mesmerized the global media with its unique and uplifting architecture.
With the opening of the airport, Beijing has joined a group of cities, including New York and London, that have two-long haul international airports”
China has many more infrastructure projects under construction, which demonstrates how the nation has already transformed in to a very advanced stage.

I have worked in a company in Los Angeles for more than 20 years. My observation is that most American people are not very interested in knowing what happens in other countries, no matter it is Europe, Asia, or even their neighbor Canada.
Most of my coworkers have never been to any foreign country, not even nearby Canada or Mexico. If you ask them where Kobe is ? They might confuse and think you are talking about NBA star Kobe Bryant, because very few of them know Kobe is a city in Japan. Most of Americans might have heard some big city names like Shanghai and Beijing, but they don’t know anything else about those cities except for very tiny number of people who have traveled to those places.
I believe most of Chinese know Bush, Obama, Clinton and Trump, but very few Americans know foreign leaders.
Another major reason that Americans don’t know how advanced China has become is that news media here in the U.S. rarely report any good things about China, no matter media of left or right, CNN or FOX. They all don’t want to see a strong China.
7、Heavenly Knight
Aha, you said the central point!
Americans don’t want their own people to know about China’s development, because if we report on China’s maglev train and high-speed rail, we will know how dilapidated the New York subway is!
As for now? We are also the first country in the world. Our people enjoy the most superior life. What a sweet dream!
