The general thought by the Chinese people is that the world helped out China when the outbreak first began, so now it’s China’s turn to repay the favor in the fight against future outbreaks.
Japan was quick to send multiple rounds of supplies throughout the outbreak. This particular donation was really touching. The boxes had a beautiful poem on them saying:(山川異域,風月同天)我們可能擁有不同的山脈和河流,但我們共享一個太陽和月亮。We might have different mountains and rivers, but we share the same sun and moon.
South Korea has also been super supportive during this period. Early on, their ministry of foreign affairs orchestrated several supply drops. Other countries that helped include: Pakistan, Iran, Hungary, Turkey, and many more.
With the outbreak over here begining to die down, today marks China opening its floodgates of support.
The country shipped out 100,000 masks to Japan, 250,000 to Iran, and over 500,000 to South Korea! Now that the factories are starting back up, China will continue to increase its aid of nations such as: Iraq, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sir Lanka, and so on. More importantly, China just delivered almost 20,000 virus test kits to these countries, and even sent out experts to Iran to help with the outbreak there.
I’ve become a big fan of this idiom because not only is it fun to say, but the meaning is something I think we can all relate to. The next time someone helps you, don’t forget to huala huala back.
