If you are an untrained civilian, just hand over your wallet, remember how he looked like if you can and run in the opposite direction after he turns around. Call the police or go to the police station when you know you are safe to do it.

They usually go after you because you look like you have something they want. Usually it’s cash, and they want to take it from you, so they can buy their crack and malt liquor, or whatever.

What I would do is carry a decoy wallet with you. Load it up with counterfeit dollar bills, and expired credit cards. When you hand the decoy wallet over to the mugger, they will be ecstatic at first, until they find out it’s all fake money, and they can’t use it. You can assume that they are too stupid and lazy to notice it until it’s too late, and you’ll already be safely away from the desperate bastard.

How? Situational awareness and understanding the criminal mindset. Studies have shown, criminals often sext their targets based on predetermined characteristics. Understanding these cues will assist in avoiding being chosen as a target. .

I wouldn’t worry much about them shooting at you while you run away. Even well-trained policeman and military personnel have trouble hitting a running target. Chances are, a criminal will have never received marksmanship training.

You’re in a bad position, hand over you valuables. Escape and head to safety as soon as you can.

Demeaning you and treating you with contempt. Example, you’re being menaced and they now start pushing you around. Treating you like a play thing. Simple solution if this is a common problem….Carry a fake wallet with some old, expired credit cards and a couple of bucks. Maybe one of your old cell phones if he wants that. Hide your real stuff.

Situational awareness is the best prevention. Stay out of “those” neighborhoods if possible. Be alx. Walk as if you are headed somewhere. Don’t walk along with your nose in your cell phone and your earphones in place….

Violent self-defense is potentially perilous. Consider that the “encounter” will probably start with the mugger displaying a weapon. He already has the advantage. Drawing down on the fellow and shooting him in the back as he walks away may be soul-satisfying , but might get you a rather lengthy prison term as well.
