Pakistan Navy’s first Type 054A/P Frigate, PNS TUGHRIL has been commissioned at Hudong Zhonghua (HZ) Shipyard, China. Ambassador of Pakistan to China, H.E. Mr Moin Ul Haq graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

PNS TUGHRIL is 1st of 4 x Type 054 Frigates being constructed for Pakistan Navy. The Ship is a technologically advanced and highly capable Platform with enormous surface to surface, Surface to air and underwater fire power besides extensive surveillance potentials. The Ship holds the capability to simultaneously execute number of naval warfare missions in a highly intense muliti-threat environment. PNS TUGHRIL is equipped with state-of-the-art Combat Management and Electronic Warfare system alongwith modern self-defence capabilities.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Guest underline that commissioning of PNS TUGHRIL ushers a new chapter in Pak – China friendship that has matured through the tests of times and remained steadfast in all domains. He added that in the context of overall security paradigm of the region, TUGHRIL Class Frigates will strengthen Pakistan Navy’s capabilities to respond to maritime challenges to ensure seaward defence, maintain peace, stability and balance of power in Indian Ocean Region. The Ambassador also praised the concerted efforts made by CSSC, CSTC, CSDDC, HZ Shipyard and PLA (Navy) for the landmark achievement by timely delivery of the well-equipped and potent Frigate despite global pandemic.

The Vice Party Secretary and Director of the Board CSSC Mr. Du Gang also applauded the timely construction of PNS TUGHRIL while emphasising that commissioning of ship is a major milestone and a testimony of Pak-China long–lived friendship; as both countries are bound by the affinity of trust, compassion and commonality.

While presenting account of activities, the head of Pakistan Navy Mission overseeing construction of 054A/P Frigate, Commodore Rashid Mehmood Sheikh highlighted that PNS TUGHRIL being a multi-mission capable Frigate will form the mainstay of Pakistan Navy Fleet while bolstering Pakistan Navy’s maritime defence capabilities.

The ceremony was attended by high level dignitaries from BOMETEC, OIMC, SASTIND, PLA (N) and CSSC besides Chairman of CSTC & HZ Shipyard and Commander of PLA (N) Shanghai Naval Base alongwith prominent figures of Pakistan community in China.

If Pakistan were to buy a warship from the US, they would’ve humiliated, insulted, placed conditions and delayed the delivery (If delivered at all) but this is not the case with the all weather friend.

Enemy wonders how does bankrupt Pakistan keeps buying these big ticket items.

Don’t be ungrateful. There can be delays or hicups on delivery plus jerking up prices like Russian did to India. Not every military supplier is just reputable as China.

And yes delays happens and price rises happen too. Look at CPEC so when u take a blinded notion that China doesn’t practice business with Pakistan you are wrong.

China is our good friend and it goes both way but there is a perception they give us everything for free and we can get anything we like. This is plain wrong. Shahid lateef has said this many times about jf17 program and how difficult it is dealing with the Chinese. We have to be realistic and accept facts.

I think there is just too many misinfo about Pakistan dealing with Chinese. You can’t deny there is some pro US element during JF-17 program period.

There are something you can’t get it even u got the money or simply money is not enough.

Don’t blame CPEC on China side when safety of our workforce is even hard to gurantee on Pakistan soil.

I said it in another thread that in other countries, people discuss the systems, technologies and arnments in ships but in Pakistan peeple fight over names, give a ship an Arab name, Persian Shia got angry, give them a Turkish name some Pakistani’s who doesn’t even live in Pakistan get angry. Our first and foremost Identity is that we are Muslim, Pakistan is today but in next 100 or 200 years there might not be a Pakistan but Islam will exists, there might come a day when there will be no country or the world but the religion will remain, and so does our identity, as for Hindu’s/Christians/Sikhs Pakistan’s they are more then welcome to identify themselves as Pakistani first as they don’t have a Quran or Rasool Allah who put us (All Muslim) together like a single body, body parts can differ from each other in appearance or functions but they are still Part of the same body.

How about talk in detail on how this ship will be deployed in various roles, mix of sub surface role, as a surface combat only, as surfsce combat with JF17s,… so much to discuss about its role.

Can someone highlights its posturing in Arabian sea or even in indus ocean. i am mode interested in power projection in indian ocean with new subs and This frigate

Already inducted in Karachi I believe, crew training was already going on prior to induction, as some crews are being repurposed from retired ships. Still, it’ll take a few months for it to be at peak capability.
