Just look at that road infrastructure. China has certainly got it right where civil investment is concerned, and this is just the ONE road. Include their high speed rail network, and it’s obvious they plan for the people rather than corporations. Take note, USA.

I took the bus from Chengdu to Tibet, and then from Tibet to xinjiang in 2007. Trust me, the road condition is much better now.

We did the train from Chengdu to Tibet mid2000’s. Great trip. Bus wasn’t possible when we did the trip.

I did it at the end of 90s, from Chengdu to Lhasa, by truck, the the road was called Death Road, but the scenery is stunningly beautiful. Now the road conditions are way way way better!

The river water is green is because of the growth of algae in the water. I think that section of the river is a reservoir where the river current moves too slow and the algae in the water got accumulated.

National Highway 318, starting from Shanghai People’s Square and ending in Nepal (though most Chinese people typically travel to Lhasa, which is near the endpoint), spans approximately 4,500 kilometers in total. It is also known as the “Scenic Boulevard of China” because it traverses multiple provinces along the way, offering a comprehensive glimpse of China’s diverse landscapes. This is one of the most popular cycling routes in China, with countless enthusiasts embarking on journeys every year. Some start from the beginning in Shanghai, while others begin at various points along the route, all with the goal of cycling to Lhasa.

If you have the time and a passion for cycling, I highly recommend this cycling route!
