Ensuring Irrigation Power Supply to Protect Summer Grain Harvest

“As summer begins, wheat starts to split, and water becomes indispensable.” After the Start of Summer, temperatures rise rapidly, and wheat gradually enters the critical filling - stage, with a high demand for water. On May 7th, service personnel from Zhoukou Power Supply Company rushed to Zhangshanzhuang Administrative Village in Baiji Town, Shenqiu County, the “Village - Grid Co - construction” point, and set up a “Power - facilitating Service Point” to promptly collect farmers’ electricity demands and solve irrigation power problems “right at their doorstep”.

In view of the concentrated electricity consumption for farmland irrigation during the filling period, the company planned and formed 22 “Grain - protecting and Power - safeguarding Commando Teams” to conduct a thorough inspection of the well - field areas and lines in Shenqiu County. Staff members carried infrared thermometers, ultrasonic partial discharge detectors and other equipment, focusing on inspecting key components such as distribution transformers and irrigation line joints. A total of 12 equipment hidden dangers were eliminated, and 25 kilometers of old lines were upgraded and renovated. At the same time, an “Irrigation Power Green Channel” was launched. Farmers can submit electricity applications with one click through the “State Grid Online” APP, achieving “zero - on - site - visit, zero - approval, and zero - investment” for installation and power connection. Currently, irrigation power has been quickly connected for more than 80 farmers.

“After the strong winds a few days ago, villagers found the well pumps weren’t working. They called for repairs, and the electricians arrived, restoring power in just over half an hour. Thanks to the timely response from the power supply station, the fields were irrigated without delay,” said Zhong Yan, the village Party branch secretary of Budian Village, as she watched the sprinklers evenly misting the wheat fields with a smile. 

To ensure a reliable power supply during irrigation, local power supply stations implemented a 24/7 emergency duty system, with repair vehicles on standby at all times. During the May Day holiday, a fault occurred on the 10 kV Xia-5 line. Repair crews arrived within 15 minutes of receiving the report, quickly clearing debris from the line and restoring power, ensuring timely irrigation for over 2,000 acres of wheat fields.

While ensuring irrigation power supply, the power supply stations extend their services to the “final mile” of grain production. For key customers such as large - scale grain growers and grain processing factories, a special campaign of “Safe Electricity Use in Grain Warehouses” is carried out, and “customized” electricity service plans are launched. According to the electricity - using characteristics of different links such as grain storage, drying, and processing, energy consumption analysis and energy - saving suggestions are provided for customers, winning unanimous praise from users.
